FACIALS & PEELS
CLINICAL FACIALS AND CHEMICAL PEELS

Facials can represent the last word in pampered skin. Skin that is deeply cleansed, treated with gorgeous products, all combined with the relaxation of skilful massage. What is not to love?

At The Good Skin Place I take the concept of a facial pamper further, using specific proven products and techniques that will give long-lasting benefit to your skin. Cosmeceuticals and combinations specially selected for your skin type and skin condition are worked with traditional massage and new technologies.

Peels used depend on your skin’s needs – these could be a course of clarifying Glycolic/Lactic and Salicylic acid, to improve congested, dull and lifeless skin (with no down-time). Or TCA peels (which do have some down time) to provide a more intense peeling of problem areas, dermal remodelling and  collagen stimulation.

the DETAILS
WHAT DO CLINICAL BRIGHTENING FACIALS INVOLVE?

Deep cleanses gently remove the build-up of everyday life, combining the fruit extracts of Akademikliniken formulated cleansers, and oils.
Skin-sparing peels containing a mix of Glycolic, Salicylic and Lactic Acid will lift and exfoliate the skin and encourage cellular renewal.
Massage is important to boost circulation and stimulate the skin. Texture tone and brightness will be improved, particularly around tired eyes.
Masks hydrate, clarify and brighten.
This is followed with all the layering of products to send you on your way refreshed, hydrated, pampered, and with skin which is protected from UV and oxidative stress.

WHAT DO TCA PEELS INVOLVE?

TCA or Trichloroacetic Acid Peels are one of the best studied and most predictable peels used for treatment of pigmentation, fine lines, acne and scarring. TCA Peels are usually used in a course of 6 treatments, 2 to 4 weeks apart, and are versatile in that they can be safely layered to intensify the treatment over time. In preparation for the use of TCA peels, you will need to prep your skin, which, depending on your skin and your at-home routine, will usually include the introduction of a mild daily AHA based toner or topical retinoids which will even out and thin the outermost epidermal layer

I use BioRePeel TCA peel which includes buffering for the skin so that there is less downtime than with conventional TCA peels; there may be slight peeling after two or three days, rather than full shedding of skin. This is a highly effective peeling agent, administered in a course of 4-6 peels for best results.  Suitability for TCA peels and its benefits would be discussed with you in consultation.

WHAT IS THE DOWN TIME?

Brightening facial
There is no downtime associated with a brightening facial. You will leave with glowing fresh skin.

 Akademikliniken glycolic peel.
Your skin may be mildly pink but will quickly return to normal. The skin-sparing acid used in the peels means that your skin will not flake, crust or visibly shed

TCA peels (Trichloroacetic acid)
These are significantly different to the glycolic peels in that they are deeper and more intense treatments and involve down time. Your skin will look tight (and quite good) for a day or two and will then possibly darken before it begins to peel. This peeling can last a few days, and is really ‘down time’ where you will not be looking your best.

how often should I have a facial?

We will work out a treatment plan together, depending on your skin type, health and circumstances. This may be monthly; it may be six-monthly – for some it is weekly.
Facials deep clean, renew, and improve circulation through massage, they can become an important part of your routine, protecting your skin, renewing it and preventing further damage.

Peels will be recommended in a course of 4 or 6 regularly spaced treatments, depending on your skin needs.

what products do you use in your facials?

There are no shortcuts to a beautiful and healthy skin. It is all a matter of finding high quality products with proven effective ingredients that are tailored for your skin’s needs. My choices are Akademikliniken (Sweden) and Deciem (the Abnormal Beauty Company, Canada), supplemented for specific conditions with Dermafix (South Africa) and Dermaceuticals (Dermapen, Australia).

But my go-to much loved products are Akademikliniken

Akademikliniken products have become Sweden’s top cosmeceutical brand and have a cult following elsewhere around the world. AK was developed by Europe’s leading plastic surgery institute with the mission to place skin in optimal health before and after surgery. Akademikliniken have always been very careful to provide realistic and honest expectations rather than excessive marketing and false promises.

CAN RESULTS BE GUARANTEED?
As with all aesthetic treatments which rely on your body’s natural response, results will vary; some skins will take longer to change, some will change more than others. Lifestyle factors, such as sun exposure, general health, diet, can also influence your response. I have invested in treatments which have the best results across a range of skin types, with the backing of research, and which are approved for safety and efficacy.
